About Verilo

Rethinking how online retailers verify damage claims.

Verilo is software that helps online retailers gather better evidence when a customer reports a damaged product.

Damage claims have long been settled on a photograph. As generative AI makes convincing images easy to produce, a photo on its own is becoming harder to rely on.

Verilo replaces the upload with a short, guided live capture in the customer's phone browser. The merchant sends one link from the support ticket; the customer shows the label, the item and the damage to the camera; and the evidence comes back to the same ticket with a Result: Verified, Needs Review or Unable to Verify.

Verilo is built to inform the merchant's decision, not to make it. It describes what the capture shows; a person decides what happens next.

Story ideas

Stories worth exploring.

Perspectives on AI, digital evidence and the changing expectations of online retail. Suggested angles for interviews, commentary and reporting, not published articles.

Story idea 01

When a photo is no longer proof.

Generative AI and the reliability of customer-submitted damage imagery.

For years a photograph was the default evidence in an online damage claim. Editing tools and image generators can now add convincing damage to a picture of an intact product in seconds. What does that mean for retailers who still decide claims from a photo, and for the honest customers whose claims are now harder to accept on sight?

Story idea 02

The future of verification in e-commerce.

From static uploads to guided, interactive evidence.

Many banks and identity services have moved from uploaded documents to live, guided capture. Could retail claims follow? How live capture works in a phone browser, what it can and cannot establish, and where it fits beside photo forensics and manual review.

Story idea 03

Building trust into the claims process.

Better evidence without treating customers as suspects.

Most damage claims are genuine. The question for merchants is how to gather evidence they can rely on without slowing down honest customers or making them feel accused: one link instead of a chain of photo requests, plain language, and a person who still makes the decision.

Founder

Meet the founder.

Bailee SatieFounder, Verilo

Bailee Satie is an Australian technology founder originally from Perth, one of the world's most geographically isolated major cities. He was 23 when Verilo launched in October 2026.

In 2026, he independently relocated to Bangkok, Thailand, to build and launch Verilo, a technology platform addressing the growing challenge of verifying customer-submitted evidence in an era of increasingly sophisticated generative AI.

Through Verilo, Bailee is working to rethink how online retailers assess product damage claims, moving beyond reliance on static photographs toward guided, interactive verification.

Bailee is available for interviews and commentary on digital evidence, AI-generated imagery and how online retailers handle customer claims, and can give a live demonstration of the product.

As AI-generated images become increasingly convincing, I think retailers need to reconsider how they establish trust in the evidence behind a damage claim. I started Verilo because I believe that verification should happen when evidence is captured, rather than trying to determine whether a photograph has been manipulated after it's already been submitted.

For journalists

Questions, answered plainly.

The short version of what Verilo does, what it does not, and how it fits a retailer's workflow. More in How Verilo works.

What does Verilo do?

Verilo helps online retailers assess damaged-item claims. The merchant sends the customer a Verification Link; the customer completes a short guided capture on their phone; Verilo checks the capture against the order and returns the evidence and a Result (Verified, Needs Review or Unable to Verify) to the merchant's helpdesk ticket or dashboard.

How does live verification differ from uploading a photograph?

An uploaded photograph is a finished file: it can be edited or generated before anyone sees it. In a live capture the customer never uploads a file. They follow steps on screen while the camera runs, showing the label, the item and the damage, moving around the item and holding a hand beside the damage. Verilo reads the label against the order, compares the item with the store's product images and uses motion, light and handling signals to indicate a physical object in front of the camera.

Does a customer need to install an app?

No. The capture runs in the phone's web browser from the link, with no app and no account. It takes about a minute, or two with the upload.

How does the merchant review captured evidence?

The Result arrives in the helpdesk ticket as an internal note, with each check described in plain words. In the Verilo dashboard every claim has its evidence, a timeline of the capture, the photographs from each step and a downloadable evidence pack. The merchant records the Outcome: refund, replacement, return, rejection or other.

Which merchant platforms and helpdesk systems does Verilo integrate with?

Verilo is a Shopify app, available on the Shopify App Store. It connects to the Gorgias, Zendesk and Intercom helpdesks; teams without a helpdesk use the Verilo dashboard. Other platforms are not supported today.

Does Verilo guarantee that a claim is genuine?

No. A Result describes the evidence captured in one session. It can show that the item from the order was in front of the camera, live, with the damage visible; it cannot establish how or when the damage happened. Needs Review and Unable to Verify exist because some captures are incomplete or unclear. The merchant always makes the decision, and Verilo never refunds or rejects a claim on its own.

Can journalists arrange a product demonstration?

Yes. Email hello@verilo.app and Verilo will arrange a live demonstration of both sides: the customer's capture on a phone and the merchant's view of the Result.
